Fund Overview
The Community Investment Fund (CIF) was started with an initial $400,000 to build an infrastructure to wait for and administer the annual proceeds from the National Western Center Round-Up program.
The Round-Up (plus a small external donation) yielded $86,000 in year 1. In year 2, it yielded $90,000 that will be granted out in our second CIF grant cycle in 2025.The fund also rolls over $375,364 cash-on-hand from the initial startup funding. The original seed funds must be stretched across several years to keep the fund alive and staffed until the fund can pay for itself.
2024 Applicant Snapshot
More than one third of all applications were for home repairs. Only two grants have been provided to individuals seeking critical home repairs. The CIF is intended to fund projects that have systemic, shared, and self-perpetuating impact. Needs and desires that are not already the responsibility of the City or funded by other programs are funded only in the case of preventing displacement.
However, the CIF would like to work toward having a steady and dedicated funding stream and separate application for housing support needs that can be met through collaboration with CIF-funded resident entrepreneurs, experts, co-operatives and collectives. We welcome big ideas on how to meet our home repair needs with the talent and skill in our own neighborhoods.
